On April 27 2022, members of UKCDR’s COVID CIRCLE Researcher Community (CCRC) came together with UK funders to discuss the impact of social sciences research on the COVID-19 pandemic response. The webinar was chaired by Dr Nina Gobat, lead of the WHO COVID-19 Social Science Technical Working Group.
Researchers and funders around the world rely on the COVID-19 Research Project Tracker and associated Living Mapping Review (LMR) to funnel resources where needs are greatest by tracking the latest COVID-19 research trends and gaps. For the first time, the LMR features an analysis of research projects on our Tracker mapped against the pillars and priorities outlined in the UN Research Roadmap for the COVID-19 Recovery.
A conversation with Marie Staunton, Chair of the Strategic Coherence for ODA Research (SCOR) Board, and Charu Kaushic, GloPID-R Chair, on UKCDR and GloPID-R's unique partnership to address research gaps during COVID-19 and discuss lessons learned for future approaches to funding epidemics and pandemics.
A report, ‘Funding and undertaking research during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: COVID CIRCLE lessons for funders’, published today, presents key lessons and future guidance for research funders to address the challenges of funding and conducting research in the context of an epidemic or pandemic, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
This report presents key lessons and future guidance for research funders to address the challenges of funding and conducting research in the context of an epidemic or pandemic, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). As well as provide specific recommendations for action by funders to improve the implementation for the ongoing pandemic and for future epidemics and pandemics.
A collection of seven case studies, supporting the report ‘Funding and undertaking research during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: COVID CIRCLE lessons for funders’. They highlight research projects and programmes which have demonstrated innovative best practice in research in epidemics.
This dialogue will facilitate discussion on what global funders have learnt from funding COVID-19 research, with a specific focus on low-and middle-income countries. These lessons provide an opportunity to inform future funding and research practice in epidemics and pandemics.
In the 9-month update, researchers and funders around the world can tap into the latest trends and gaps for future COVID-19 research to funnel resources towards greatest research needs.
An article by UKCDR, GloPID-R and the the Covid-19 Clinical Research Coalition published in The Lancet calls for urgent collaboration and coordination for unmet, underfunded COVID-19 research priorities in low-resource settings.
