Useful links on improving risk assessments and safety awareness when working in developing countries

The following links may also be of use to research organisations that wish to improve risk assessments or the ability of their staff to improve their own safety awareness:

  • The DuPont Bradley Curve – This curve shows how training can improve staff safety moving staff from a “reactive” approach to safety to an “interdependent approach”.
  • The European Interagency Security Forum – This website provides a wide variety of information (alerts, training information and advice) on how to improve the safety of employees that travel abroad (especially when travelling to high risk locations).
  • OSAC (US Department of State) – provide regular travel alerts.

The Security Management Initiative’s paper “Can you get sued” provides extensive advice on legal liability relating to risk assessment and staff working overseas, although primarily targeted towards humanitarian agencies it has wider relevance
