On 7 March 2014 the Cabinet Office and UKCDS jointly held an Information Day on EU Civil Protection Funding Opportunities . The aim was to provide the UK civil protection community with an understanding of the EU funding opportunities available through the Civil Protection Mechanism. In 2014 almost €12m has been allocated from the EU civil protection budget for successful project and exercise proposals.
The Civil Protection Mechanism is a legal framework for Member States to assist each other and third countries in the event of a major natural or man-made disaster. It also includes financial support for exercises and research projects, training courses and exchange of expertise.
