Research capacity building—obligations for global health partners
This commentary paper from The Lancet Global Health defines a prescription for change in the approach of global health partners to research capacity building.
Beyond sustainably increasing investment in science, technology and research and supporting the development of associated skills and expertise, one of the fundamentals to solving the world’s greatest research challenges and addressing needs is the ability to work in equitable partnerships. The way in which research is undertaken is just as important as the outputs of research, and equity in research is central to achieving that impact.
With the recent cuts in ODA funding for international development research, it is now more important than ever to understand barriers to equitable partnerships and use the lessons learned over the past few years to move from principles to practice.
