The workshop explored how robust disaster risk assessments can be undertaken to ensure scientific rigour can be delivered despite limitations of time, knowledge & materials, highlighting best practice.
The UK Science and Innovation Network, in collaboration with the UK Collaborative on Development Sciences (UKCDS), the Research Councils UK Risk Research Champion and La Salle University, is organising an international and interdisciplinary workshop to explore this issue. The workshop will be held at La Salle University in Bogotá, Colombia, on 24-26 February 2014. The workshop will explore how robust disaster risk assessments can be undertaken that ensure scientific rigour but can be delivered when there are limitations in some, or all, of time, knowledge and materials with the aim of highlighting best practice. It will focus on extreme events rather than ‘everyday disasters’.
