Karen is an Associate Professor of Social Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She leads the Child Protection Research Group, and specialises in the prevention of violence against children and adolescents, child protection, and the ethical aspects of conducting research in places where social protection systems are not well resourced. She conducts large scale epidemiological studies in collaboration with academic and NGO partners in various countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Cote d’Ivoire, Kenya, and Malawi. She advises various groups including WHO and the Violence Against Children Surveys on both technical and ethical aspects of research on violence.
